Terms used across the docs, SDK and console.

Terms

  • App ID — public identifier of an app in a project
  • App Secret — private key for your server; never ship it in an app
  • Grant / access token — short-lived permission for one user in one room
  • Room — a shared space users join to talk or watch
  • Role — what a user may do: host, coHost, speaker, participant or audience
  • Publisher / subscriber — sends / receives a media stream
  • Seat — a speaking slot in a voice room
  • SFU — the media server that forwards streams between users
  • TURN — relay used when direct UDP is blocked
  • Signaling — messages that coordinate a room (who joined, who speaks)
  • Participant minute — one user connected for one minute; the billing unit
  • Rate card — the current price list
  • Webhook — an HTTPS call the platform makes to your server on events
  • Revocation handle — server-side reference used to end a grant early
